Crimea holds a special place in Mikołaj's heart. Since 2000, he went there every spring or autumn for 13 years straight for plein air painting. (The painting was finished in 2019 basing on Mikołaj's memories and his feelings.)

Mikołaj Skobelski was born in 1959 not far away from Żytomierz in a family that had lived there “since forever”. For over forty years now he has lived in Kyiv. In 2008 he was accepted into the fellowship of the members of the National Association of Artists of Ukraine. In all seasons of the year he can be met in the streets of Kyiv. He wanders the streets with easels, brushes and paints in order to capture their beauty and “save it from being forgotten” and to recreate and transfer to the canvas the fleeting moments, changing lighting, the faces of people - sometimes joyful, often thoughtful and concerned. The world of the artist also includes Warsaw, Wrocław, Gliwice, Przemyśl, Olsztyn, Radziejowice, Kazimierz Dolny (and a lot of other smaller or bigger Polish towns painted with the love for the land of the forefathers during plein air painting workshops), as well as the nature of the Crimea and Carpathian Mountains, Ukrainian and Polish forests, mountains and lakes. It includes forms such as portrait, nude and still life.
