Kay S Lawrence has a PHD from Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Australia. She completed her BFA with First Class Honours in Sculpture & Intermedia and Visual Culture in 2009. She sees art in all its forms as a means of communication, with the ability to connect people and places and lead to greater cultural understanding. Her interdisciplinary art practice critically engages with anthropological, physical and spiritual aspects of her surroundings, interweaving image, metaphor and abstraction. Her current research seeks understanding of how the visual and other sensual qualities of fibre and digital imagery contribute to understanding the complex relationship between time, space and the body. Frequently, her work addresses social justice and environmental issues. She has received artist residencies at Crane Arts, Philadelphia, Sandavinci College of Art and Design, Sanda City, Japan, Geidai University, Tokyo, Red Gate Artist Residency in Beijing and Peel Island, Moreton Bay, Australia. She exhibits regularly in Australia and has also exhibited in Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing, Philadelphia, Singapore and Lithuania. Her works are held in private collections in Japan, China, Singapore and Australia. 1954, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. Now an artist after a lifetime of accountancy. Currently undertaking Doctoral research at Queensland College of Art, Australia. Inspiration found in nature and social justice issues.
