About The Artwork
Honeybee on Black Continuing my experiments with watercolour on the rare black paper, this illustration features a honeybee. My current favorite technique involves wet-on-wet painting, taking advantage of high-quality paper that resists immediate water saturation and dries slowly. After the paper has dried, I meticulously add details to the bee, such as the fuzziness using a dry brush with almost dry paint, eyes, antennae, legs, and, most notably, the wings. The wings are rendered using a wash technique, creating a truly transparent effect. I emphasize the importance of my artistic endeavor as a call to action, urging people to save the bees.
