ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Painting: Ink, Gesso, Acrylic Wax and Shellac on Wood. 2018 was a beautiful long hot summer in the UK. This painting was inspired by several scorching runs through farmland in Hertfordshire. It was too hot for even the birds to sing. The wheat fields crackled and whispered, ripe and dry in a light wind. The earth under foot was split, dusty and hard. Everything seemed to shimmer with colour and light. This is a very joyful and uplifting painting and I hope it will bring a smile on a daily basis to someone sharing a home with it. I work with gesso because I apply the ink to the surface and then remove it, or work using wire wool and sandpaper - employing a sort of etching technique to push the ink into the surface and lift it off. This gives the painting a sense of depth and a physical presence.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I am inspired by light, land, sky, and weather. The paintings are amalgamations of journeys taken on foot by running and walking. They describe and communicate physical, emotional and visual experiences of landscape. I typically emphasise the sky and remove signs of human habitation. By doing this I hope to offer you space to breathe and be, to be immersed or uplifted, to connect with your own memories of landscape. The paintings are made using a traditional gesso ground on birch or poplar. I prepare the gesso surface over a number of days. When I am ready to make a painting, I create texture by painting with the gesso and carving into the surface with wire wool, sandpaper and wood carving tools. Next I work with high quality light fast acrylic inks and push the pigment into the surfaces I have created. Alex has exhibited widely in the UK, working regularly with The Other Art Fair presented by Saatchi Art. She has work in private collections in France, Germany, Norway, the USA, Japan and the UK.
