About The Artwork

'I Licked It So It's Mine' - hand painted typography on a vintage oil painting on wooden board depicting two kittens investigating some strawberries which have been spilt on the floor. The piece is inspired by the child like practice of licking a food item to claim ownership of it and is a humorous and playful take on that expression. The painting comes framed in a vintage painted gold frame.

Annie Rob, AKA Painting in the Rude creates work known for its joyful celebration of re-invention, self-empowerment and an unabashed freedom of expression.   Born in London to a free-thinking mother and a more seriously tethered father, Rob has always reveled in that dichotomy which echoes through the pieces she creates. Rob graduated Brighton University with a BAHons in Graphic Design and quickly advanced through the world of advertising, finding herself a Creative Director at 25. After co-running her own creative agency for 10 years she decided to escape the ‘dog-eat-dog’ world and concentrate on her own self-expression.    Robs’ statements are often reflections of being a woman in a male-led world. Although, thought provoking, they take a lighthearted and cheeky perspective, reminding us to laugh at the bigger picture.   An avid collector of vintage ephemera, Rob describes her approach to gleaning ideas from life as ‘beach-combing’, developing visual poetry from unexpected combinations and wordplay to create something completely new.   Her work has featured in The Independent, Living Etc., Glamour UK, Stylist Magazine, The Evening Standard, Refinery 29, Tirade World and the Saatchi gallery ‘ones to watch’. She exhibits her work through The Other Art Fair and the Affordable Art Fair, where she is represented in the UK by Air Contemporary Gallery.   Rob now resides in Los Angeles, but her East London roots are never far from her mind and play an integral part in the work she creates.
