Art Description

Painting: Watercolor on Paper.

Ice and Fire.

This painting is part of an ongoing series I call "Shields". I began the series about 3 years ago. Before that, all my work contained India ink as well as watercolor.

These are improvised paintings which I start with no sketching or plan in mind. I'm able to watch the composition unfold - which is one of my favorite aspects of painting.

This work was perhaps subliminally inspired by the polarized nature of politics in the US in 2017. Could also be inspired by the climate crisis in which the world is heating due to human burning of fossil fuels. With totally spontaneous, improvisational work it's difficult to tell... There are perhaps other points of inspiration for this work which I leave open for viewers to perceive. Everything is connected, so anything is possible.
