Nicoletta Veronesi ‘s art work is characterized by the exploration of traditional and non-traditional media through her original use of color and her continuously different expressive forms: collage, painting, ceramic, photography, artist’s books, wearable art, fabric and jewel design . The artist operates with absolute freedom: abstract and figurative work alternate and overlap without any preoccupation of belonging Nicoletta Veronesi’ s vocabulary is variety: it ‘s the integrating quality of her work. She never tied herself to a style, she uses several styles and languages at the same time and she doesn’t allow herself to be limited by a specific cliché. As Marcel Duchamp said: “ Most people stop and give themselves a style, for some there isn’t ever a brake”. Looking at her career’s production, Nicoletta Veronesi’s work is very affirmative: it’s always joyous, extremely generous and giving. The colors are brilliant, optimistic, bright. The work is very likable and identifiable, the message is there: it’s a wonderful affirmative positive outlook of the artist. Nicoletta Veronesi deals with the joy side of civilization not with its anguish and sorrow. Born in Milan, Italy, she moved to New York City in 1976 and studied painting at the Art Students League. During ten vibrant years living in New York, Ms. Veronesi worked in both figurative and abstract painting on big-format canvases and photographs, initially on Polaroid and then on big Cibachrome. During this time, as well, Ms. Veronesi developed her own original technique of manual fusion of painting and photography, subsequently using the computer in these experiments. In New York her work was featured in several collective shows. In 1986 upon the occasion of her first "one-man show" she moved to Madrid, Spain, where her spiritual and creative consciousness fell under the influence of Spanish environments. Presently living and working in her native Milan, Nicoletta Veronesi continues to express herself in many different ways. In her latest photographic work she sometimes incorporates the frame into the composition in such a way that is unique and that works extremely well. Her urban work becomes a portrait of a building or neighbourhood not unlike Robert Smithson’s Site –Non Site sculpture, which was also site-specific. Her work has been on display in collective and personal exhibitions in New York, Spain, and Italy.
