This work is based on my responses to terrifying images of approaching bushfires seen on television. I have used watercolours on paper to capture billowing smoke, embers and soot fragments. The title refers to the role of human activity in these events.

My painting career spans four decades. I am interested in ideas that circulate around the idea of landscape in the context of Tasmania, particularly the representation of land, country, sites, and views. I generate compositions using several randomizing techniques and exploit temperature, gravity, vibration and frost etching to create fields and surfaces that evoke landscape features and details within.
