My current works show everyday scenarios or incidental domestic situations, familiar but usually deemed unworthy of attention. Many of my paintings reflect the idea that buildings and objects bear witness to, reveal, and hold the memory of human stories. My process begins with the arrangement of still lives made up of ordinary found objects, which together suggest a story, something that happened, though the details of the story are left to the imagination of the observer. I then create a photographic collage of printed images on the canvas, which is both obliterated and gradually recovered with oil paint and a palette knife. The hiding and revealing of layers is reminiscent of the archaeologist’s trowel uncovering fragile traces of long forgotten personal scenarios. My work has been shown and sold extensively in the UK and abroad. I also take commissions to produce paintings of personal interiors or scenarios, or still lives made up of objects that have meaning for the client.
