In the Fold Painting

This painting grew out of a canoe trip in a mangrove, tidal area off the south, western coast of Florida. The time of day is just before sunset. The waters are calm and the soft daylight is blurring the outlines of the trees. It is quiet and remote. Soon flocks of Ibis will start coming in to roost for the night. The image was developed by using layers and layers of oil paint mixed with cold wax medium, often scraping through to reveal under colors and using transparent layers to allow previous layers to influence the results. The edges have been painted to extend the central image. The painting is complete as it is. No framing is necessary.
