"In the Time of Flowers" Painting

- I’m tired of overcomplicating. I choose to simplify. - Alena Masyutina is an artist based in Espoo, Finland, who works in acrylic and watercolor. Her paintings combine decorative figuration with soft surrealist elements, drawing on plants, animals, botanical motifs, natural forms, and imagined imagery. She works with simplified forms, restrained painterly handling, and selective textural accents, creating compositions shaped by color, mood, and visual clarity. A key turning point in her practice was a move away from more complex, time-consuming painting toward a more concise visual language that allowed for greater freedom and immediacy. Her work reflects an interest in decorative painting, stylized natural forms, and a contemporary understated aesthetic. Masyutina has participated in international group exhibitions in Tallinn, Helsinki, and Istanbul, and is a member of HIAA, AGOP, and The Union of Finnish Art Associations. Her current practice continues to develop a clear, contemporary visual language grounded in quiet atmosphere and nature-based imagery.
