About The Artwork
Layers of pure pigment, fluorescent pigment and pure beeswax on primed canvas board. White painted wooden cradle frame on rear, ready to hang. The surface is smooth but undulating so is more an object than a flat painting. The many layers in the painting reflext the light and give a deep luminance,which is unfortunately hard to capture in a photograph. The painting can be polished with a clean dry cloth if dusty, this also improves its shine and lustre. Inspired by the simple act of observing time and the Earths movement from ones particular position on the planet. This image is inspired by the 3000 year old rock carving (Hallristningar in Swedish) near to my home. The passing of the seasons and movements of the planets was observed, marked and celebrated in symbolic form that pre-date writing.

The patterns and rhythms of time. Its cyclical repetitions are observed from ones particular position on the planet. Wherever or whoever you are, you are the pivot of that motion. Using the suns passage through the extreme shifts of the year, the actual heat of the sun or the visual translation of scientific experiments and observations that prove the Earth’s rotation. I construct my encaustic paintings by collecting pure beeswax, some natural pigments and wood ash from the Swedish forest to give a deep connection to the place and time I am lucky enough to call safe and home.
