About The Artwork
Iris is a portrait on an American Flag. The model (unknown) has iris flowers in her hair. The flag painting is made by dye and bleach on a vintage American Flag, each time it is bleached the flag is washed, dried and ironed and on the final bleaching it is washed again to remove any traces of the chemicals. The portrait as it is painted with bleach appears to be part of the warp and weft of the fabric, so it emerges from the cloth. The flag is float framed, suspended on a pole inside at the top and bottom of the flag. The frame is black with standard glass.
