I had so much fun creating this painting! I was out the other night with some artist friends for a plein air paint-out at night. We chose Balboa Park in San Diego for our location because Balboa Park is celebrating its centennial in 2015. The park and all of its buildings have been beautifully restored to mark the occasion. This is an image of the San Diego Museum of Art. If you were to see this building in the evening, it is stunning with all of the architectural details and the spotlights on the front of the building. I named this painting "Jewel in the Park" because this building reminds me of a sparkly jewel, and is one of the main buildings in the park. I really like how my vibrant colors and brushstroke simulate a jewel-like quality. As most artists will admit, not every painting is a winner. On this particular evening, some of the museum security guards were puzzled as to why we were painting at night with limited light to help us see. But that is also the fun of painting at night under the skies. You never know what you're going to get. Luckily, I'm really happy with how the colors dance on the canvas for this one. Enjoy!

Painting is unframed. Painting can be hung with or without a frame, depending on buyer's preference. Hanging wire is installed in the back.

My journey as an artist has not been a straight path. I embarked on a professional career in healthcare, but I have been fortunate to develop a simultaneous path as an artist. I have been creating oil paintings for over 30 years. Painting allows me to speak in ways that I cannot express through words. I am continually amazed by colors and sights around me. Some the images I depict also allow me to savor some happy moments. I paint because I love it, plain and simple. But I also paint to share that vision in my mind with others. My hope is to offer some reminders, in a whimsical colorful way of the delightful images that already surround us. As a healthcare provider, I am also a strong believer in how certain imagery can evoke a sense of joy and relaxation. It is my hope that my pieces will create that same sense of joy. Being an artist in beautiful San Diego, living close to beaches and many hiking trails, has allowed me to create a lot of plein air paintings inspired by the natural surroundings in the area. I also love to paint images inspired by my travels around the world. My daytime profession is in healthcare, but my artful spirit calls me to create again and again for over 30 years. Thank you for enjoying my work.
