ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This work is centered around depicting the scenery of the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York, while also bringing in the folklore of the area. The work is across five wooden panels held together with hinges, creating a triptych inspired by medieval art. The four side panels are meant to represent the seasons. The center panel depicts the view from Pine Orchard of the Hudson Valley, while also bringing in the folk character of Rip Van Winkle.

Julianna Buckley is a painter and visual artist from the New York tri state area. A recent graduate from the Chelsea College of Art and Design, she has spent the last four years in London. Buckley’s paintings are mostly landscapes focussing on the beauty of the natural world while showing touches of the manmade. Within her work she looks to explore themes of folklore, how personal antidotes, story and memory work to form our idea of history, as well as the almost mystical aspects of nature. She has largely drawn inspiration from the symbolic and pictorial elements of medieval art and the landscape of New York state; particularly the Catskill Mountains
