Kailua Kona Bay Painting

"Kailua-Kona Bay" was my home town growing up. This special place is dear to my heart and a great source of inspiration. Not only is it beautiful but holds so many childhood memories. I first painted this scene back in 2004. Immediately some friends wanted to buy it so I made a few prints before I let it go. Earlier this year I received a request to paint another original similar to the first painting. She loved how I captured Kailua-Kona Bay as she remembered it many years ago. This is that painting. And indeed it does capture Kailua-Kona Bay as I remember it as a child. I painted the original painting in 2004 in watercolor. And although I was in art school experimenting with all kinds of mediums, I chose watercolor because it was my first love in art. I still love the lifelike colors and bright colors I can achieve with watercolor. It only made sense to paint this one in watercolor as well.
