ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I have painted Katherine now and then, as she has grown from a child to an adult, always trying to explore her persona. Earlier portraits brought out a degree of suffering she experienced during childhood as a result of family problems. This portrait is based on a photo I took during a recent visit we made to Italy. It is kind of "Mona Lisa like" in the composition but that wasn't a conscious decision on my part, just the way the photograph turned out. I am thinking this is a smaller work in preparation for a large painting.
