mRowntree fell in love with watercolor while studying art and design at Boston University's School of Fine Art. With the years his work has matured and today he demonstrates a confident style that recalls landscapes of his own favorite artists Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent. His work often features architecture and industrial scenes that demonstrate his interest in engineering and urban-archaeology. He has a unique talent for identifying and exploring urban anachronisms like Boston's elevated expressway (now underground) and Kenmore Square's Citgo sign. Part of every Boston University student's and Red Sox fan's collective subconscious, the Citgo sign is under threat of urban development again. Rowntree will donate 10% of net sales from the Kenmore series to support the effort to protect the sign with 'Landmark' status. mRowntree's other work includes digital design and video.
