Charlotte Sayuri Katsuno is a British-Japanese artist based in London. Born in Greenwich, London in 1989, she graduated from Winchester School of Art in 2011 with a BA Hons in Fine Art. She is fascinated by the complexity and interconnectedness of our existence. This fascination forms the basis of investigation for her work. “My current practice explores our relationship with nature within the current era of technological dominance. Ongoing interests include concepts surrounding time, scale, light, energy and their relationship to our own existence. For me, the physical act of painting functions as a form of emergence, as opposed to conceptual presentation of an idea. This enables me to extract meaning through unearthing connections otherwise unseen, unleashed through the process of painting. I then use this meaning to inform how the paintings develop. I am currently looking deeper into the connection between digital imagery and primitive image making. The resulting works strive for coalescence between the two.” Her work has featured in shows across the UK including Sotheby’s, London, ‘Art Behind the Art’, Bargehouse, London, ‘Seize’ and as part of ‘Fringe Arts Bath Open Art Prize’ in Bath, UK. Her paintings belong to both private and public collections including Sotheby’s Corporate Collection and the University of Southampton Collection.
