“Luke 23:42” (The Weeping Sicario) Oil on canvas, 24” x 20” by #Jaimekafati This painting is a tribute to the most unlikely of candidates I’ve met during my previous career. It’s their story of redemption. While executing this painting, I worked with a professional art model and added the tattoos to serve as the allegorical context. These tattoos are a collection from the many individuals I’ve personally interviewed and photographed throughout the years, in the US and abroad. “Lucas 23:42” (El Sicario Lloro) Óleo sobre lienzo, 60.96 cm X 50.80 cm Esta obra es un tributo a los candidatos más improbables que conocí en mi carrera antepasada. Es su historia de redención. Cuando ejecute esta pintura, trabaje con un modelo profesional, solamente agregue los tatuajes para servir como contexto alegórico. Estos tatuajes son la compilación personal de personajes que entreviste y fotografié tras los años, en los EEUU y el exterior. In 2012, as a presenter at the Colorado STING National Conference, I had the privilege to meet and break bread with lecturers Michael Franzese, former Caporegime of the NY Colombo family, and Ramon “Mundo” Mendoza, a former founder of the Mexican Mafia. This painting was inspired by their personal story of redemption. Many thanks for their continued ministering.

I’ve been painting since my arrival to the United States in 1978, but it was not until 2018 when I retired from my day job that I was able to enjoy my studio on a full-time basis. Between intermittent commissioned works, I involved myself in continued figurative studies, attending local life-drawing sessions, exploring new mediums, and executing allegorical paintings that allow me to express my contemplations of the world, with some of my themes reminiscent of my birthplace El Salvador, and my grandparents' homeland, Palestine. Although oils are my primary medium, I love experimenting with a diverse set of mediums and styles. While my works are continually evolving in style and subject matter, the characters within my figurative works reflect a global community, as the human form occupies the central motif of most of my paintings, and within the figure, I give a voice to our humanity. My artworks reside in both private and public collections. Over the years, they have been exhibited and published extensively in the United States. Since 2020, it has been incredibly humbling to witness several of my pieces selected, published, and purchased internationally, spanning across the USA, Latin America, and Europe.
