During the pandemic, my work became very controlled and geometric. The lines were straight and the process formulaic. Slowly as shelter in place lifted, the geometric shapes began to soften and instead of squared edges, curves began to appear. The curved edges brought calm and a new freedom to my studio practice. As I continued to explore this body of work, I moved away from multi layered colored compositions and started to explore the inclusion of white space. For me, the white space was symbolic. I was once again finding hope. At the time, I was still working on standard panels but then a thought occurred to me. If the curved forms felt emotionally uplifting why not push this further and create panels with curved edges. This is how the Oon Series came to be. As soon as the first set of panels arrived, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I decided to revisit a popular series called The Language Of Color. This body of work placed an emphasis on the expressive power of color. The subject of each piece was the color itself. With the curved edges, the subject moved to object that now included the panel itself. I love this series. It accomplishes exactly what I had intended. Whether blush, turquoise, orange…the work leaves an emotional impression, one that is calm, tranquil and soothing.

I manipulate tinted epoxy resin to create abstractions. I begin each piece by choosing the colors. The colors reflect a feeling but can also impact my emotional self. As I pour, a form begins to appear on the surface and a dialogue begins. These forms are similar to characters in a play. They speak to me and guide me to create their shape. Eventually, they interact and engage with one another. There is an unspoken language between them, one I cannot hear but instead, feel. The language has an emotional value that taps into a different part of our brain. The challenge in creating this type of abstraction is leaving the emotion unidentified. With each artwork, my intent is to create an experience. I allow the viewer to think, feel and find their unique significant meaning.
