Land Of Beauty And Sorrow Painting

A painting about gender identity, or differences between what is seen (above the horizon) and what is unseen, below. As with much of my work, the idea was scribbled in a flash 'unconsciously', so without a pre-conceived idea, as such, so my ideas about the painting are only that; an interpretation. Like most of my work in oils, this is painted in several thin and perfectly smooth layers of oil paint. I typically use an imprimatura (base tone), an opaque underpainting in earth or neutral colours, and a glaze layer in more transparent and brighter colours. I use a tiny amount of amber in my painting medium to add a unique level of stability, and a silvery lustre to the result.
