Hello, I am an artist based in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. My city is famous for both strong academic tradition — first Russian Academy of Fine Arts was established here in 1757 and avangard, non-conformist art — revolutionary Petrograd (name of Saint-Petersburg in 1914-1924) was a place of birth of a abstract art icon — Malevich's "Black square". So I have been exposed to both traditions and hope to combine that in my vision, using wide range of skills and approaches. My alma mater — Saint Petersburg Art and Industry Academy — though established much earlier was reformed under big influence of avangard art in 1920s. The school still has much more in common with Bauhaus tradition rather than academic one. I studied book illustration there. Looking for deeper understanding of art I also studied art history in Smolny Institute in Saint-Petersburg, focusing on Russian 1900-1920 avangard art. In 1995 I studied in Santa Cruz, CA, and, later, looking for new experience I studied in Lacoste School of Fine Art, France in 2001. I used every opportunity to visit museums and galleries and always tried to be exposed to international invinronment. Recently I have joined the School of Engaged Art (non-governmental platform for artists and left activists) and I participate in exhibitions with my video art. As this activity was and is very non-profitable, I also had a job untill the COVID19 pandemia as a tourleader. This gave me an opportunity to visit remote and beautiful places such as Kyrgystan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, remote parts of China and my own huge motherland. You can see some paintings from those en plein air sessions in my profile.
