ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A bush of flowers grows on the entrance to my garden. Usually he is not particularly beautiful for me. Nothing special. But in winter, its leaves fold in a certain way and become similar to the architectural elements of the Baroque times. The combination of silvery color with pinkish stems - it all looks very paintable. I could not resist. This painting is from series of works “Roots”. I've started this series of works in February 2020, just at the beginning of the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. My studio is located away from the city, above the lake, surrounded by gardens, in winter it is very quiet around ... my only neighbors are garden cats and birds. In Lithuania, winter sky is low and almost all the time gray, the trees are bare and almost black; everything around becomes monochrome, which, combined with the surrounding silence and loneliness, affects the perception of reality. Everything around sounds in the rhythm of "Air for G String" by Bach, and tune in to thoughts of the infinite. This is how a series of works, which I called “Roots”, began and it continues to be replenished with new works.

For the past few years, I have been concentrating on the theme of animate and inanimate nature. Starting with the theme of roots and delving into the beauty and variety of small details of flowering meadows. In the context of nature, I include lonely images of people as an integral part of the living world. In depicting human beings, for me, it is not only their physical beauty that is important, but also the transmission of their momentary mood, psychological well-being. Sometimes in my drawings I allow myself to be ironic about myself and what I find funny or remarkable in other people. But at the same time, I consciously avoid depressive and aggressive images, because it contradicts my inner ethic not to multiply the violence in the world. I would like to classify my work as Magical Realism, but I think my work reflects more of a psychological Existentialism, looking for its embodiment in natural motifs. 1995-1999 studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 1999. Bachelor's degree in Costume Design; 1990-1995 studies at the Abramtsevo College of Applied Arts and in 1995 obtained a bachelor's degree in stone, bone and wood processing from an artist-master. After the Academy, she worked as a costume designer at the Lithuanian Film Studio, and later as a fur designer in Šilutė. 2006 went to England, where she changed her creative profile, began working in a White Allom studio in London as an artist-decorator, and at the same time began painting with oil. Since 1995 participates in exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. Natalie have organized 22 personal exhibitions, participated in 16 joint paintings and drawings exhibitions.
