The success of this trompe l'oeil painting is measured by whether it suceeds in deceiving the observer. In my painting of this open book I have attempted to capture the book as though it is, in fact, real and open. I based this picture on pages from a "Book of Hours" commisioned by Jean, Duc de Berry in 1413. The artists chosen to illuminate the "Tres Riches Heures" were the three Limbourg brothers. These days the term "photo-realism" would be equally applicable to this style of painting.

The painting is framed in a gold-coloured wooden frame, with an off-white cardboard mount, behind glass.

Framed, this painting measures 28"x25"x1". Unframed it is 21"x16".

He also works in larger formats, creating watercolours of subjects including river landscapes, portraits, trompe l'oeil and still life, utilising his miniature pointillist technique. His paintings are represented in Royal, public, and private collections in every continent of the world. He has won all the major awards for miniature portrait painting. Bill has been awarded the 'Exhibit of the Year' twice at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in London for his watercolours, and is the only living miniature artist represented in the permanent collection of the V&A in London. He lives and paints in his riverside studio at Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, England.
