Lever de soleil à Poaka Painting

During my honey moon trip to New Zealand, we slept in a tent by several lakes. In the morning I'd wake up early to watch the sun rise. That day, the morning light gave the red tent a special look. I made several drawings to remind me of this beautiful moment and painted from memory back in my studio in the South-west of France. I hope people who see the painting will remember their own sunrise and feel the beauty of being alive. I chose oil as it allows me to play with transparency, runny paint, superimposition. I am inspired by the work of Peter Doig, David Hockney, Matthew Wong, Shara Hugues, Tom Hammick and Benoît Pingeot.
