ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Gaia is the mythological goddess personifying the earth. Earth, water, air, and fire are the fundamental constituents of the world in ancient and medieval philosophy. The raw elements of all creation. The title for the work lights below the water is the revelation the surprising the unknown fact, the answer to the question. The answer to human existence or the world is not simple but infinitely difficult to understand. This is represented by the golden book to symbolize Knowledge. The book is Smouldering and smoke swirls from its cover and envelop the female form. If our Knowledge of the Earth and its complexity was to be lost in the flames we may destroy the balance. The alpha and omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. The perpetuation we must respect and the answers we find we can only hope will endure.
