About The Artwork

The Berlin Wall, the concept of the border, conflict, war, removal and the union of two or more points have been functioned as a trigger to create my works. My work depict the present, the East-West dichotomy, the relationship between “Eastern” and “Western” nations and their attempt to dominate or to come to the fore. Through my work is attempted initially a reference to memory and therefore to the Berlin Wall and generally to borders, visible or not, that surround us and consequently are seeking their gradual degradation through the combination of accident and the preform. My work began on the occasion of the study of conflict, but also of the two-point union, as happened with the Berlin Wall. Moreover bacing on the "formalist of expertise" of Clement Greenberg and the theory of his "puristic" speech, I focused on morphological types and I created this series of works, which have as basical elements the form, the composition, the neutral color and the texture.

Compact autonomous forms with bright enclosing shape, which are suspended centrally in the space or expanded out of it, linked together harmoniously, conversed with other more transparent and sometimes they are provoke tonal explosions expressing a conflict or a war (economic, political etc). Alongside graphite lines are emerged and are swaying freely, contributing to wholeness and balance of the composition. Pursuing a "linear style" and using "hard lines" I create extensive and clean color schemes. My goal is the constant quest for the "solidity" and the adherence to the composition as a process of integration of components. Furthermore the tensions, which are inherented in some paintings arising from the conflicts of the same forms, while each of them claims an important place in the limited world of the canvas emphasizing its diversity such as East and West world. Despite the tension among black, white and grey forms, there is also an optimistic view while they are trying to be connected in a peaceful manner, such as that is depicted on other paintings, in which the forms function like part of a puzzle and the pieces are together in a logical way. My goal is the reduction of painting to its simplest elements and of work to the clean aesthetic substances. By the absence of color and the use of grey tones I seek the values of art itself.
