I created Linked Grounding for the exhibition "Woven" at Sturt Haaga Gallery at Descanso Gardens in 2016. The composition merges a foreground of leaves with a landscape of city and mountains in the distance constructed of yarn and string on canvas and paper. The "word" DTLA intersects with DESCANSO like two words on a Scrabble board. The labor intensive process of sewing and quilting is a medium that grounds me and has a calming effect. So often Los Angeles is depicted as a smog soaked metropolis. I chose to depict a rare scene of crisp, clean air where you can see the city from the south all the way to the mountaintops to the north using different gauges of yarn.
