The rain had finally given way to some late autumn sun. Patchy through the broken cloud. I gathered up the fruit boxes that had been left near the gate and made my way across the ridged concrete of the yard. Elsbeth fluttered and clucked as if she had never seen me before and flapped around absurdly. That old hen was no use for anything, not even the pot. Still, the kids liked to see her and I didn't know how I was going to break it to them when the silly beggar finally croaked. Everything was getting old on this farm. I leaned into the handle of the cold store and worked it with my elbow. Click. The door popped a little and using my foot I swung it open. I'll leave the fruit here for now, I thought. There was still a little warmth in the sun. Climbing up to the cab of the imposing John Deere I took the keys from the ignition and locked it up. From up there I noticed a couple of spades leaning against a roll of wire. Once a week the local college brings a bunch of students over to give them some real hands-on experience. I get a little extra for my trouble and It's nice to have them around. The down side is they never put anything away. I collected the spades on my way to the tool shed, went in and put them in their rack. The little red tractor, an old Massey Ferguson, sat off to one side. How many years since it had been dragged in here and left it in that spot? The tyres were completely wrecked now. The wheels sitting on their rims against the cement. Oil stained the floor, mixing with straw and dust. I loved that tractor. It brought back memories of riding along the fences with Dad and laughing as we bumped around so much we could barely see straight. I still tell myself I'll restore it one of these days but to be honest, I've been telling myself that for too long. Sometimes the kids sit in the bucket seat and pretend to drive it. Maybe one of them will take it on when they are older.

I am a dynamic artist specialising in the development and creation of original paintings. The challenge is to create art that is a little different whilst remaining widely accessible. To achieve this I work on the dividing line between the figurative and abstract. I keep in mind that there is time on either side of the single moment of an image and I endeavour to capture some of that surrounding time. Think of it as an animation condensed into a single frame.
