From my own Polish background I am only too aware of the atrocities carried out during the Second World War. As a young individual I remember the monumental destruction of the Twin Towers in New York as well as terrorist bombings closer to home, in London. Violent Conflict surrounds us every day and should not be forgotten. Currently we are at war in Afghanistan and there is sectarian brutality and genocide. Created during the month of November this painting pays homage and remembrance to all those who died or suffered in conflict. Everyday there are sacrifices being made and if the world forgets, who will stop us from committing the same fatal mistakes in the future? Fragments of bone within the painting reflect the strength of humanity to persevere through times of terror. Furthermore, flesh decomposes but the bone remains, and is a symbol of remembrance. One cannot erase memory and the bone will not erase itself. Within this painting I have engraved into wet paint the war poem “Dolce et Decorum Est.” by Wilfred Owen. Furthermore, polyfiller mixed with PVA has been strewn and sculpted on canvas to give the work a graphic texture of gnarled organic remains.

Feel free to contact me if interested in my work:my email: alexochman@aol.com. I have been inspired by many artist particularly of the expressionist movement. I try to capture emotion through varied brush strokes, sometimes smooth other times paint has been strewn and scoured to create a tormented canvas. I use a variety of tools when applying my paint to vary its texture and mood. My inspiration often comes from every day life, I see people's every day conflicts and bonds. My work aims to merge these conflicts onto one plate.
