ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The “Tree Spirits” series is a project I started in 2004, at an Artist-in-residence project in the Tyrolean Alps in Austria. It was time to take a closer look at nature - after painting big sweeping vistas and landscapes for years, I developed an interest in the close ups of the rocks and trees that make up the landscape. Many a painting inspired by bark, lichen and moss was the result. Refined in 2006 at the AIR program at Arthur Boyd's Bundanon, I continue to paint little close ups of tree bark, inspired by the always beautiful Eucalyptus tree.
