A painting of the Lots Road Power Station in Chelsea, West London, before its redevelopment. Painted from life from Battersea on the south bank of the river Thames. Nicholas Power is a figurative artist, based in the Hampshire countryside. Inspired by nature, his portraits and landscapes are grounded upon careful observation and design, but with a broad impressionist focus and vibrant sense of life. Strong contrasts of lights and dark, and rich colouring, give a subtle blend of tradition and the present day. I take constant inspiration from the work of the American impressionist artist Dennis Miller Bunker, whilst the two individual paintings I return to most often are both by Rembrandt, Self Portrait at the Age of 34, and A Bearded Man in a Cap, which hang in The National Gallery, London.
