MAAMI Painting

"We are born of love ; Love is our mother." - Rumi. "A mother's love liberates." - Maya Angelou "Maami" is a Yoruba word that means "My mother". The third of three children raised by a single mother in a harsh Nigerian economy, I witnessed first hand the self-sacrificing and undying love of a mother. I drew my inspiration and image reference for this work from the film, "Maami" by Tunde Kilani. I always enjoy the hypnotic serene flow that comes with working with watercolor and this was no exception. The rich, warm colors harmoniously combined reflects the strong and deep love between a mother and child. As you look on this work, placed close to you, may it bring to your mind good memories of the love shown to you by your mother by blood, adoption or friendship.
