I was surprised the first time I went to Zanzibar to find young Maasai morani there. On talking to them I discovered they came to sell their jewellery so they could send money back to their families on mainland Tanzania. Some also work as Askari (security guard).

I was born in London but have travelled widely and lived in 6 different countries. I have lived in Spain for the past 30 years and now also have a house in Zanzibar where I spend the winters painting. I have sailed across the Atlantic and through the Caribbean to Venezuela. I have taught Art in two schools in Spain and privately. I am now focusing on my own work and Zanzibar, exotic animals, and the sea are my inspiration.
