ABOUT THE ARTWORK
For this painting I took inspiration from a trend in portrait photography that involves the subject being partially submerged in a bath full with milk. I like the connection that it has to my feelings towards being mixed race and feeling not quite part of either identity. To me it represents being stuck in the in-between. The subject is painted in very saturated colours as a way of highlighting the contrast between the face, and the subtle shifts of white in the background. This portrait was created using oil paints and is sealed in a matt varnish.
