Painting: Watercolor on Paper.
This painting is part of an ongoing series I call "Shields". These are improvised paintings which I start with no sketching or plan in mind. I get to watch the composition unfold - which is one of my favorite aspects of painting. I don't know what any given piece will look like at the beginning. Slowly as the piece is "built" I may start "carrying" the piece in a certain direction. In this piece, I noticed a landscape begin to emerge toward the end of the process of painting.
My intention with this work (and many of my works) is to share my personal vision of unity or oneness. In this specific piece, I want people to feel a sense of mystery and ponder exactly what it would be like to live in a place like this.
I generally arrive at titles by simply looking at the piece after completion, and waiting for some words to bubble up.
This piece is mostly inspired by my love of architecture.
