About The Artwork

Living close to London has given me a chance to paint scenes that I have visited and observed during different time of the day. This picture is one of the four versions of The Tower Bridge that I have painted, with a semi- abstract suggestion of the South bank buildings and HMS Belfast on the foreground. The unusual cropping has enabled me to set the bridge in the middle of the composition, with its left tower cut off by the edge of the frame. Revealing the silhouette of the bridge and the warship in front, with predominantly graphical lines, still inspired me to use colour that is far away from natural: bright orange, red, blue and purple reflections. As usual I am treating the reality directly but aiming to emphasize the atmosphere and sense of freshness of the early morning sunshine in the city.

I studied Fine art at "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" University of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria. In 2001 I obtained my master degree in painting with the speciality of Pedagogic of Fine Art. In 2003 I have completed an extra mural course of education for acquiring additional professional training in the speciality of Painting. My mentor was Professor Nicolai Ruschukliev. I thoroughly enjoy painting landscapes, interiors, still-life, figures and portraits. The oil impasto technique, provoke me to build a thick texture, often using a palette knife or finger strokes. Because of the vibrant and bold colours I use, a great part of the forms appear distorted, less defined and even abstract, until observed from a bigger distance. With the portraits, I prefer to explore a more precise, realistic approach, as it helps me to reach the character of the model and I am aware that there is a diametric opposition between the figurative and expressive appearance of my art. natashakamburova.com
