The bark of a sycamore tree provided inspiration for this painting. It reminded me of the 17th century Dutch painter Hercules Seger's print of a phantasmagorical print of a tree he named, 'Mossy Tree' .

ARTIST STATEMENT Janna Kumi is a Canadian artist based in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia. She studied natural resource management and forestry at universities in Montreal, Munich and Vancouver, and worked for over 30 years in senior management and executive positions in British Columbia. In 2006, she began fine art studies part-time at Emily Carr and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of British Columbia in 2015. Since then, her art practice has evolved into a unique body of work comprised mostly of drawings and mixed media works centred mainly upon the tree - and more specifically - the bark.
