This painting draws inspiration from a photograph of the fictional "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles, Section XIXème siècle," created by Marcel Broodthaers in Brussels in 1968. It is formally influenced by the textured paintings of Anselm Kiefer, known for his historical and philosophical themes depicted with thick layers of oil, sand, and lead. The artwork aims to convey the narrative of artists creating their own museums, exemplified by Marcel Duchamp's "Boîte-en-valise," Robert Filliou's "Galerie légitime," and Marcel Broodthaers' "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles." In 2009, Davis Lisboa established the Davis Museum, featuring "The Paintings Section from Davis Museum," a collection encompassing portraits of Duchamp, Filliou, and Broodthaers, still lifes from the "Boîte-en-valise" and "Galerie légitime," as well as interiors from the "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles." Davis Lisboa (São Paulo, Brazil, 1965) is a visual artist based in Barcelona since 1986. Throughout his career, he has worked across diverse media, including drawing, painting, digital art, and video, exploring the boundaries between applied and fine arts, high and low culture, art and the marketplace, as well as craftsmanship and technology. In addition to his work as an illustrator and painter, Lisboa is the creator of the Davis Museum | The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, an innovative online project that functions both as a work of art in its own right and as a platform for the promotion of international contemporary artists. This mini-museum, conceived as a conceptual artwork, challenges traditional exhibition conventions by presenting pieces that blur the lines between viewer and artwork, encouraging critical reflection on art accessibility and the democratization of culture. Lisboa has participated in numerous exhibitions and art events of international significance, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the global contemporary art scene.
