For this painting, I drew inspiration from three of Marcel Broodthaers' works: "Miroir d’époque régence," which explores the symbolism of the eagle; a museum divider framing "Private Property" installed in the "Publicity Section" of the Musée d'Art Moderne at Documenta 5; and "Keep Dry," written on the crates of the "Section XIXème Siècle" of his museum. I combined these concepts to create a work that questions institutional structures and the interaction between artistic and commercial symbols. I hope viewers understand that these paintings explore a narrative within art history, focusing on artists who have created their own museums, such as Marcel Duchamp with his Boîte-en-valise, Robert Filliou with his Galerie Légitime, and Marcel Broodthaers with his Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles. I chose oil on canvas for its versatility and rich history. I use the finest materials: linen canvas, Old Holland oil paints, and Talens medium and varnish. The square format reflects the cubic shape of the Davis Museum Barcelona. My color choices span three periods: the Grey Period (2011–2016), the Blue Period (2016–2018), and the Full Color Period (2019-present). Davis Lisboa (São Paulo, Brazil, 1965) is a visual artist based in Barcelona since 1986. Throughout his career, he has worked across diverse media, including drawing, painting, digital art, and video, exploring the boundaries between applied and fine arts, high and low culture, art and the marketplace, as well as craftsmanship and technology. In addition to his work as an illustrator and painter, Lisboa is the creator of the Davis Museum | The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, an innovative online project that functions both as a work of art in its own right and as a platform for the promotion of international contemporary artists. This mini-museum, conceived as a conceptual artwork, challenges traditional exhibition conventions by presenting pieces that blur the lines between viewer and artwork, encouraging critical reflection on art accessibility and the democratization of culture. Lisboa has participated in numerous exhibitions and art events of international significance, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the global contemporary art scene.
