About The Artwork

The inspiration for this piece originated from a brief study of San Agustín's chapel in Quito, characterized by Quitenian baroque-style walls adorned with intricate flowers. Staying true to my signature style, I incorporated a diagonal element that typically traverses the composition. This artwork delves into the realms of nature, and patterns, and even follows the algorithmic allure of flowers on Instagram. The floral patterns carry a subtle animalistic essence as if they were creatures concealed beneath floral disguises. Venturing beyond conventional styles, I experimented with a blend of pastels, markers, and acrylic. The unique sensation of painting with pastel over acrylic resembled the delicate strokes on silk, adding a layer of texture to the piece. Executed on watercolor paper, the artwork is presented unframed. Framing is recommended for optimal display, though hardware is not included. This print edition captures the essence of my exploration, a fusion of historical inspiration and contemporary creativity.

An Ecuadorian artist, navigates the local artistic landscape with a distinctive approach, diverging from the typical dichotomy prevalent among Quitenian artists. Rather than aligning with the bohemian left or the elite, art-educated right, Angela embraces her identity as an ambitious Quitenian with a down-to-earth perspective. Balancing her artistic pursuits with a middle-class sensibility, Angela introduces a unique voice in the narrative of Ecuador's art scene. She modestly considers herself a sui generis expressionist, influenced by her early exposure to art through her mother, Angie, and the captivating oil-painting sessions with her aunt-in-law, the esteemed artist Micaela Almeida.Angela's artistic journey began with humble doodles of flowers, symbolizing intimacy and family bonds. Her style, marked by an indiscriminate use of colors, reflects her innate creativity. Turning to digital mediums for expression, she reserves traditional materials for moments of artistic freedom. Angela, embracing vulnerability, desires a return to the simplicity of white canvases. She discreetly embeds messages in her art, inviting viewers to discover joy in nature scenes, and showcasing Quitenian humor with humility and depth.
