ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This is an original, one-of-a-kind artwork created with oil paints on 1.5" thick canvas. The painting is varnished with a Damar varnish to protect it from dirt and light. She paints the edges of the canvas in black so it may be displayed without a frame. The painting is wired and ready to hang. Like most of her work, this piece is inspired by the organic forms and textures of nature. In creating it, she continues to explore a personal technique that is analogous to the fluid geological processes that shape our environment. The painting evolves in layers, manifesting a kind of dialogue between her emotions and the chemical reactions of the materials.

French-born American painter Annette Poitau received her MFA with honors from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. She also studied at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. After showing her work extensively in France, she moved to California, where she lived for 12 years. She currently works full time at her studio in Oberlin, Ohio. Her paintings are displayed in numerous private and public collections in the U.S., throughout Europe, and in Japan.
