Rima was born in Vancouver, Canada and grew up in Munich, Germany. From the beginning she was very fascinated by the Expressionists and was concerned with the dissolution of form, as it began in Impressionism and ended in complete abstraction with the Expressionists. She herself is interested in nature and people in her works, focussing more on the inner than the outer appearance. She writes: A word about art «Art is the mediator for the unspeakable; therefore, it seems to be foolish, to interpret it again through words.» Goethe What is increasing in art, nowadays, is just this kind of foolishness. And furthermore: without words, without detailed interpretation and a sound background-knowledge it has become almost impossible for a common mortal to approach today's art, let alone, to understand it. It tends, on the one hand, towards philosophy and, on the other, towards the individual self-presentation of the artist himself. Hence, the insecurity of the observer; indeed he thinks, without an introductory-course of art, without profound interpretation, without knowledge of lifework, biography and the psychological background of the artist, it would be impossible, to approach a work of art. If art is something, which just an elite can and should have access to, that remains to be seen. The judgement of what, in the end, is true art, what purely decoration, what passing time activities and what simply junk is, may be left to every individual to decide. I think, Art is important in every form. Important for mankind. It has always been the mirror of society. Looking at Art can be beautiful, but it can be terrible too - and today it might make you think. Art was always a means of delight and admonition and rebuke. Art has to do with aesthetics. It should be accessible to everyone. It must not be agreeable. But it must be allowed to be a mediator. Art has to do with communication. A kind of communication, that does not need words. It should not be forced, to explain itself. It may be shocking. It may disturb. But it may please as well. And it may be understood.
