About The Artwork

This painting is based on image from Old City of Prague which I visited in March of 2022. The building it features is one of the oldest synagogues in Europe. Legend says that here famous sage Rabbi Maharal created clay man Golem. This scene attracted my attention by its unusual composition and bright light. It is painted in my deeply personal style incorporates unconventional composition, vivid texture, gestural painting marks, emphasized color and other features of 21st century painting, along with a solid Academic foundation and use of the Old Master’s techniques. The texture is extremely refined, with heavy impasto and many layers of transparent glazes. It is painted on fine linen with highest-grade professional paints and covered with UV-protective varnish. Edges are painted, so it can be hung without a frame. Hanging hardware is installed.
