ABOUT THE ARTWORK
One of my early nudes, Olivia Perched was executed in Dec 2015 across two sessions. The painting was completed in 4 hours. I like the confident pose and the slightly confrontational, non-passive gaze. I think the composition and weight of the figure work really well and are enhanced by the white background and shadow. **Please note canvas size is 31.5 x 23.5 inches. It is framed in a bespoke white wooden frame which makes the overall finished size 33.5 x 26 inches.** Also, as the painting was completed under a time limit there are some areas that are left quite loose and rough, for example the feet. Whereas the face is finished in more detail. Also, the background has areas of 'smudge' of other colours and overall the finished resembles more of a sketch than a highly worked and polished painting. Overall, I feel this is a well executed, confident and modern nude.

I like to say that I paint ‘The Edge of The Rainbow’. The term comes from Donna Tartt’s novel, The Goldfinch as she describes a space that sits just beyond reality, where all beauty, magic and art exists. My paintings are an attempt to conjure this space, to break through this reality and try and grasp what lies just beyond what we can see. Its a place that is blurry, shimmering and impossible to capture. In practice, I use layers and layers of thin, runny oil paint to create glowing glazes of colour that vibrate and change in the light. As I apply each translucent layer I like to imagine that light and air is caught within the painting, allowing it to breathe and come alive.
