I have always drawn figures, as choreographic notes and as teaching notes....when I don't know what to do I draw figures. These figures are large 42 inches high and they fill most of the space. They hold within them messages, they shift, move, stretch, reach and box. I have drawn figures for such a long time they each have their own meaning, they are usually arranged as part of a dance and even though they are flat they still exist in time and space. They go very well with music in that they occupy rhythm, meter, form and phrasing. I love these black acrylic inks. This painting is best pinned to a mounting board before box framing.

He was born in the British Colony of Fiji. As a young child his Fijian mother took him with her to the ballet which she loved. At Art School he fell in love with the American Abstract Expressionists and the work they were doing with the great American choreographer Merce Cunningham and the composer John Cage. The scholarship he won in his first year at art school paid for the extensive training he undertook to become a highly trained dancer. Today Mark Baldwin makes lush often paired down paintings. They take the viewer into a world of a shapes which to him represent the human body, curving or bending into the picture space. The paintings go beyond the body evoking moods, gardens, sunlight and stories. He works between London and Silves in the Algarve Portugal. The paintings exist in time and space changing with the light. They represent a life time of work. The struggle for perfection and musicality, they carry memories and experiences pulled from the black hole of creativity. Presently he is Academic Visitor University of Cambridge in the Department of Psychology working with Professor Nicola Clayton FRS.
