Zohar Cohen is an Israeli painter living and working in Haifa. His work moves between landscape and abstraction, exploring relationships between memory, material, color, and place. The paintings begin through movement toward real geographical locations — deserts, forests, cities, and emotionally charged environments — yet gradually detach from their original source in the studio, transforming into dense, layered painterly fields. His works are characterized by surfaces built from accumulated brushstrokes, layers of paint, erasures, and fragmentation, creating tension between structure and dissolution, light and depth, personal memory and collective landscape. Through an ongoing process of construction, covering, destruction, and renewal, painting becomes a space of presence, materiality, and transformation. Cohen received his MFA from the University of Haifa, studied at the Kalisher School of Art, and holds a B.Ed. in Arts Education
