Leading mid-career Lithuanian artist Paulius Juška. Born 1975 in Vilnius. Graduated from Vilnius Art Academy in 1997, PhD. His artworks are owned by private collectors in Lithuania and abroad. Participant of group and solo exhibitions from 1996. Paulius: "Emerging image in the painting depends on the sight, gestures, brush strokes on canvas. This process inspires me. Not the thing itself interests me the most (for example: tree, pear, tree bark) but its form, its relation with the space, its composition relationship with environment. I want my works, in spite of the usual objecthood, to transform in an abstract reality, were normal world shapes itself into something else. It is not so easy to paint in these modern days: you are surrounded by the latest technology, while you work with almost the same materials that the artists had a hundred years ago. Painting as an art is no longer at a such a big interest. The artist's status in society is different as it was the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical era. For many people it seems to be the past, a hobby that does not require nor daily work, nor mastery. Almost everyone can be called an artist. There is no more objective artistic criteria. They are created, recreated, customized. I still paint. I feel like a kid who built one castle of sand and rushes to build one more, perhaps better."
