ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Step into the enchanting realm of Eury's artistic journey, where the fusion of Korean traditional and Western inspiration creates a mesmerizing tapestry of colors and forms. Born in South Korea and now based in Seoul, Eury's art reflects her personal odyssey of language barriers and cultural shifts, evolving into profound means of expression. Each piece invite audiences into a poetic space, reminiscent of fairy-tales and dreamscapes, evoking emotions and memories from the depth of her imagination. Among the flowers appearing in the work, there are many works based on 'peony' shown in the new work. The artist himself learned and grew up in the Anglo-American world, but he was very interested and influenced by Korean painting and Joseon Dynasty painting. Among them, I worked on a new work inspired by a representative peony (Bugwido) among those that read the allegorical meaning of objects and applied them to paintings. Peony flowers are called rich flowers because of their excellent shape, as they are called the king of flowers. By applying rich flowers in their own way, they included "Mi-India" and "Bugwido," which are seen during the day and night, in a single piece, and they included the vomiting stories of the moon rabbit, which was like a story in a fairy tale, as well as the full moon and the moon rabbit. For the artist, who was born and raised in Korea until the age of 13 and spent his childhood in Korea and lived in Australia for a long time, Korean elements, folk paintings, Korean paintings, and Joseon paintings were mysterious, and the historical products of roots gave him great inspiration.

South Korea- born Australian artist, currently based in Seoul. "The early immigration period was difficult to communicate in the language, but the sense of isolation has driven me into creating art as another way of communication. Since then, art never left me." Since 2015, Eury moved back to Korea and started her art series that involves Korean poetic approach in fine art. The latest series contains flows and rhythms of Eastern art in the absorption of Western form, texture and colour. The artworks convey the world that may not be visible but the dreamlike imagery. The artist's recent works display a poetic space formed by fairytale-like natural environment and symbols with Korean traditional art approach, creating a hidden, mystic and dreamy atmosphere. In collaboration with her personal feelings, she recorded certain visual scenes that remembered from her dreams and imagination.
